ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the effects of core exercises on anthropometric features and some performance parameters in taekwondo athletes. Material and Methods: The participants of the study consisted of 30 male taekwondo athletes. Taekwondo athletes in research group were divided into 3 groups, dynamic core exercises (DCE) (n=10), static core exercises (SCE) (n=10) and the control (n=10) group. Dynamic Core Exercise and Static Core Exercises groups were perfomed dynamic and static core exercises 3 days a week for 8 weeks in addition to taekwondo training programs respectively. In the study, the data obtained from the pre-test and post-tests of the Dynamic Core Exercise, Static Core Exercises and control group were evaluated with the SPSS program. Results: According to the results obtained from the study, no significant difference was found in the anthropometric features such as waist, hip and waist/hip ratios of the taekwondo athlets' in the study (p>0.05). In addition, a significant difference was found in the performance characteristics of taekwondo athletes' in the leg raise, sit-up, plank and isometric back strength parameters (p0.05). Conclusion: While Dynamic Core Exercise and Static Core Exercises performed after training in Taekwondo athletes did not have an effect on anthropometric features, it was found that Dynamic Core Exercise had an effect on some performance parameters. Therefore, It might be suggested that athletes in various sports branches perform core exercises in addition to branch-specific technical and tactical training.
