Treatment planning of Class II malocclusions that are frequently encountered in orthodontic practice, can vary depending on severity of malocclusion, soft tissue profile, and amount of residual growth. In growing and developing subjects functional appliances are used to obtain the desired treatment results in skeletal, dental, and sof tissues by growth modification. It has been stated that the treatment effects of functional appliances that are differently designed and named may vary. The aim of this review was to investigate the studies of functional appliances on skeletal, dental, soft tissue, temporamandibular joint and airway effects with treatment time, made between 2012-2017.
