ABSTRACT
This study aimed to investigate the attitudes towards gender roles of the students studying in health related departments in the university and the factors affecting their attitudes. The study used a descriptive and cross-sectional design. The study was carried out in Pamukkale University Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department, School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation and Faculty of Medicine. A total of 501 students constituted the sample of the study. The data of the study were collected using a student information form and Gender Roles Attitude Scale. The average age of the students participating in the study is 21.09 ± 2.33. Of the students 47.7% are reading in nursing department, 20.2% in physical therapy and rehabilitation college and 32.1% in medical faculty. When the attitude scores of the gender roles of the students were examined, the highest mean score was the equality gender role (35.96±4.70) and the lowest mean score was the male gender role (24.40±4.22). It was found that the average score of the total score of students was 155.24±21.02. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the women, nursing students, the people living in the province and the students with high educational status of their parents had more egalitarian attitude. As a result, we can say that students have egalitarian attitudes towards gender roles. The fact that health professionals have egalitarian attitudes towards gender roles will guide the individuals they serve to have an egalitarian perspective. Therefore, it is important to revise students curriculum to promote egaliterian gender roles attitude. It is recommended that these issues be addressed more in the curriculum.
