İstatistiksel analiz için Fisher'in kesin ki-kare testi kullanıldı. Bulgular: Hastaların yaş ortalaması 44±17,14 yıl (yaş aralığı 13-94), 455'i (%44,52) kadın, 567'si (%55,48) erkek idi. Hastaların 343'ü (%33,56) çiftçi, 298'i (%29,15) ev hanımı, 201'i (%19,66) işçi, 61'i (%5,96) öğrenci, 52'si (%5,08) şoför, 44'ü (%4,30) memur, 11'i (%1,07) esnaf, 7'si (%0,68) kuaför, 3'ü (%0,29) terzi, 1'i ('0,97) ressam ve 1'i ('0,97) müzisyen idi.

Objective: To evaluate patients with pterygium and pinguecula in terms of age, gender, presence of symptom and occupational groups. Material and Methods: The study consist of 2,044 eyes of 1,022 patients. A detailed ophthalmic examination was performed. Presence of pterygium and pinguecula, age, gender, occupation and presence of symptom were noted. Chi-square and Fisher's exact tests were used for statistical analysis. Results: The mean age of the patients was 44±17.14 years (range 13-94), 455 (44.52%) were female and 567 (55.48%) were male. Pterygium was observed in 124 (12.13%) of the patients and pinguecula in 898 (87.87%). Pterygium was observed in 173 (8.46%) of all eyes and pinguecula in 1,697 (83.02%). There was no statistically significant difference between male and female, right and left eye in terms of frequency of pterygium or pinguecula (p>0.05 for all). Sixty one (35.26%) of eyes with pterygium and 478 (28.16%) of eyes with pinguecula were symptomatic and the difference was not statistically significant (p=0.290). Bilateral pterygium and pinguecula were observed in 49 (39.51%) patients and 799 (88.97%) (p<0.001). The occupational groups of the patients are as follows; 343 (33.56%) farmers, 298 (29.15%) housewives, 201 (19.66%) workers, 61 (5.96%) students, 52 (5.08%) drivers, 44 (4.30%) civil servants, 11 (1.07%) tradesmen, 7 (0.68%) hairdressers, 3 (0.29%) tailors, 1 (0.97') painter and 1 (0.97') musician). Conclusion: Pinguecula has higher bilaterality. The frequency of symptom of pinguecula is lower than in pterygium, although not statistically significant. However, the frequency of pterygium increases in middle and older ages.
