Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the acute effect of chiropractic manipulation applied to the thoracic region on lung capacity, respiratory parameters, muscle strength and flexibility in professional female tennis players. Material and Methods: Thirty voluntary female tennis players were included in the study. These tennis players were divided into 2 groups of 15, each with chiropractic manipulation and mobilization, with envelope randomization. The chiropractic manipulation group received one-time chiropractic, highspeed low-amplitude manipulation to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th thoracic vertebrae, and the mobilization group received one-time mobilization. Respiratory parameters, abdominal and back extensor muscle strength and flexibility values were evaluated before and after in all groups. Results: Forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), FEV1/FVC, peak expiratory flow (PEF) in the chiropractic manipulation group values and abdominal, back muscle strength values were found to be significantly increased acutely (p<0.05). No significant change was observed in flexibility values (p=0.293). The increase in FVC, FEV1, PEF, abdominal and back muscle strength values in the mobilization group was statistically significant (p<0,05). However, no significant change was seen in FEV1/FVC (p=0.320) and flexibility (p=0.053) values. Conclusion: Thoracic chiropractic, high velocity low amplitude, manipulation is a positive application to acute increase respiratory parameters and muscle strength in professional female tennis players. Due to its positive effects, this application can be recommended to be applied to athletes engaged in tennis.
