Objective: Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) infection is a disease that is transmitted through inhalation of dispersed droplets and contact, causing fear and anxiety all over the world with its symptoms and mortality rates. Football players were also affected by this situation due to the high risk of contamination since it is a sports branch that requires close contact. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship of fear of COVID-19 with sleep quality, motivation, and quality of life in professional football players. Material and Methods: 70 professional male football players (age: 21.67±3.546 years, height: 180.21±6.150 cm, weight: 74.01±7.318 kg) were included in the study. Fear of COVID-19 was assessed with the Fear of COVID-19 Scale, sleep quality with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), motivation with the Sports-Specific Achievement Motivation Scale, and quality of life with the SF-36 Quality of Life Scale. Spearman correlation test was used in the analysis of the data. Results: There were correlation between fear of COVID-19 and PSQI sleep duration (rho=0.304, p=0.010), PSQI total (rho=0.263, p=0.028) scores, and SF36 general health perception (rho=-0.367, p=0.002), SF-36 mental health (rho=-0.444, p=0.000) and SF-36 emotional role difficulty (rho=- 0.322, p=0.007). In addition, there was no relationship between fear of COVID-19 and motivation (rho=-0.083, p=0.496), SF-36 pain (rho=- 0.174, p=0.151) and SF-36 physical function (rho=-0.011, p=0.927) parameters. Conclusion: It was observed that fear of COVID-19 was negatively related to many parameters of quality of life and sleep quality. As the fear of COVID-19 increases, deterioration in the quality of life and sleep may affect the athletes, it is thought that it is important to consider the fear of COVID-19 and to provide the necessary guidance.
