ABSTRACT
Objective: The research was conducted as a descriptive study to determine the attitudes of women with primary dysmenorrhea to complementary, alternative and traditional medicine and the methods they use. Material and Methods: 271 students with dysmenorrhea who volunteered to participate in the study were interviewed. Data were collected between October 2020 and May 2021. Data were collected between October 2020 and May 2021. The questionnaire and Menstrual Symptom Questionnaire, which includes socio-demographic and obstetric characteristics, were used in the collection of data. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: The mean age of the study group was 21.67±2.47, the duration of menstruation was 86.7% of the mean 5-7 days, and the menstrual cycle length was 88.2% of the mean 21-35 days. Pain intensity in the menstrual period of the participants was calculated as 5.75±2.504 at rest, 5.56±2.628 during activity, and 4.05±2.628 during sleep. When complementary, alternative and traditional coping methods are examined in the survey form of the participants and in the scope of the scale item (article 7-12-15), the most sleep (88.9%), face-down or fetal positioning (83.8%), herbal teas (77.1%) are included. The coping methods they apply at the lowest rate; hypnosis (1.1%), neural therapy (1.5%), cayropractic (1.8%) were found to be in the top 3. Conclusion: It has been determined that students frequently use non-drug alternative and traditional methods to cope with dysmenorrhea. It has been concluded that attempts to cope with dysmenorrhea are common practices that will benefit the reduction of women's complaints. It has been concluded that these interventions, which are used to reduce the pain of dysmenorrhea, are among the practices that will benefit the reduction of women's complaints.
