ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between pain intensity, pelvic tilt and functional capacity in women with primary dysmenorrhea (PD). Material and Methods: Fifty-five women with PD (age: 21.51±3.38 years, body mass index: 23.54±3.95 kg/m2 ) were included in the study. Menstrual pain intensity was evaluated with the 10 cm visual analog scale, pelvic tilt with the PostureScreen Mobile application, and functional capacity with the 2 kilometer walking test. Pearson correlation test was used for analysis. Results: The menstrual pain intensity of women with PD was 6.78±1.30 cm. A very high, positive significant relationship was found between menstrual pain severity and anterior pelvic tilt angle (r=0.911, p<0.001). No significant relationship was detected between menstrual pain severity and VO2max (r=-0.033; p=0.809) and fitness scores (r=-0.033; p=0.812). Conclusion: In our study, it was observed that anterior pelvic tilt angle increased as menstrual pain intensity increased in women with PD. However, no significant relationship was found between menstrual pain severity and functional capacity. According to the results, it may be important to consider anterior pelvic tilt changes in the evaluation and treatment approaches of women with PD in clinics.
