İnsanoğlu çok eski zamanlardan beri güzellik konusunda hep bir arayış içerisinde olmuştur. Bu amaçla çeşitli ilaçlar ve tedaviler uygulamalarına karşılık daha kapsamlı çözümler olarak çeşitli cerrahi tedaviler de uygulamışlardır. Günümüzde yaşam süresinin artması ve modern tıbbın gelişmesi ile insanların ihtiyaçları da değişmiştir. Özellikle sosyal medya kullanımının artmasıyla, kişiler çevrelerinden aldıkları eleştiriler doğrultusunda fiziksel görünümlerini sorgular hâle gelmişlerdir. Yüzün yaşlanması veya yüzde bulunan bir estetik sorunun çözümü için arayış içine girmişlerdir. Bu amaçla tıp profesyonellerinin gerçekleştirdiği bilimsel çalışmalar; yüz anatomisinin daha anlaşılır hâle gelmesine, çeşitli cerrahi tekniklerin geliştirilmesine yol açmakta ve bu tekniklerin orta ve uzun dönem etkilerinin değerlendirilmelerine olanak sağlamaktadır. Mevcut sonuçların yüz güldürücü olması, hastaların bu tedavilere günümüzde kolaylıkla ulaşmaları, bu tür tedavi ve işlemlerin talep edilip yapılma sıklığını arttırmaktadır.
Estetik operasyonların büyük kısmı yüz ve boyun bölgesine uygulanmaktadır. Bu açıdan yüz ve boyun bölgesinin anatomisine ve hastalıklarına hâkim olan Kulak Burun Boğaz Hastalıkları branşı, eğitim açısından bu bölgeye son 20 yıldır büyük önem vermektedir. Burun dışına yönelik estetik işlemler ile birlikte, içine de yönelik yapılan fonksiyonel cerrahiler, yüz ve boyun cildinin yaşlanması ve buna yönelik cerrahi ve non-cerrahi işlemler, KBB pratiğini uygulayan cerrahların da ilgisini çekip dünyada olduğu gibi ülkemizde de fasiyal plastik cerrahisi alanında yoğunlaşmalarına yol açmaktadır. Otuz beş yıllık KBB pratiğimin içinde fasiyal plastik cerrahisi; gerek bulunduğum hastanenin yoğun bir eğitim araştırma hastanesi olması, gerekse branşımız gereği yüz ve boyuna yönelik bu tür işlemlere aşina olmamız sebebiyle, 2011 yılında Sağlık Bakanlığınca Ağız, Yüz ve Çene Cerrahisi uzmanlığını almama katkı sağlayıp İstanbul Üniversitesi İstanbul Tıp Fakültesi Ağız, Yüz ve Çene Cerrahisi Anabilim dalında hâlen anabilim dalı başkanı olarak çalışmaktayım.
Fasiyal Plastik Cerrahisi alanında uzun zamandan beri çalışan ve bu konuda genç meslektaşlarımıza deneyimlerini aktaracak olan KBB uzmanı meslektaşlarımın her birine, değerli mesailerinden zaman ayırıp ilgili kitap bölümlerini yazdıkları için teşekkür ederim. Hazırladığımız bu kitabımızda Fasiyal Plastik Cerrahisi alanında yer alan konulara ağırlık verilmekle birlikte, bunların daha çok cerrahi tedavileri kapsadığı görülecektir. Titizlikle hazırlanan bu kitabın, hem asistan arkadaşlarımıza hem de konuya ilgi duyan tüm meslektaşlarımıza yararlı olmasını diliyorum.
Ayrıca öğrencilik yıllarımdan bu yana tanıdığım ve tıp eğitimine büyük destek veren Türkiye Klinikleri ailesine ve bu kitabın hazırlık aşamasından basımına kadar titizlikle çalışan değerli editöryal ve prodüksiyon ekibine bize böyle bir imkânı sağladıkları için teşekkür ederim.

Estetik operasyonların büyük kısmı yüz ve boyun bölgesine uygulanmaktadır. Human beings have always been in search of beauty since ancient times. For this purpose, they have applied various surgical treatments as more comprehensive solutions in contrast to various drug and treatment applications. Today, with the increase in life expectancy and the development of modern medicine, people's needs have also changed. Especially with the increase in social media usage, people have started to question their physical appearance in line with the criticisms they receive from their environment. They have started to search for a solution to the aging of the face or an aesthetic problem on the face. For this purpose, scientific studies carried out by medical professionals; lead to a more understandable understanding of facial anatomy, the development of various surgical techniques and enable the evaluation of the medium and long-term effects of these techniques. The fact that the current results are satisfactory and patients can easily access these treatments today increases the frequency of such treatments and procedures being requested and performed.
The majority of aesthetic operations are applied to the face and neck region. In this respect, the Ear, Nose and Throat speciality, which has a good command of the anatomy and diseases of the face and neck region, has been attaching great importance to this region in terms of education for the last 20 years. Along with aesthetic procedures targeting the outside of the nose, functional surgeries targeting the inside, aging of the face and neck skin and surgical and non-surgical procedures targeting this attract the attention of surgeons practicing ENT and lead them to focus on the field of facial plastic surgery in our country as well as in the world. Facial plastic surgery within my thirty-five years of ENT practice; due to the fact that the hospital I am in is an intensive training and research hospital and due to our specialization in such procedures targeting the face and neck, it contributed to my receiving the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialty from the Ministry of Health in 2011 and I am currently working as the department head in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine.
I would like to thank each of my ENT specialist colleagues who have been working in the field of Facial Plastic Surgery for a long time and who will share their experiences in this field with our young colleagues for taking time from their valuable work and writing the relevant book chapters. In this book we have prepared, although the focus is on topics in the field of Facial Plastic Surgery, it will be seen that these mostly cover surgical treatments. I hope that this meticulously prepared book will be useful to both our assistant colleagues and all colleagues interested in the subject.
