Objective: The aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate the cephalometric changes in dental and skeletal structures after the application of two different rapid maxillary expansion (RME) appliances in patients with uni- or bilateral maxillary crossbite whose growth-development period continues. Material and Methods: A total of 30 adolescent individuals, including 15 patients with unilateral or bilateral maxillary crossbite who were treated with Open front (8-females and 7-males, 15.08±1.33 years) and 15 patients treated with full coverage RME (10-females and 5-males, 15.79±1.42 years) appliances, were included in the study. Cephalometric analyzes of individuals were performed with Dolphin cephalometric imaging software. Paired samples-t and Wilcoxon Signed-Rank tests were used to compare data within groups, while Mann-Whitney U and Independent Samples-t tests were used for intergroup comparisons. Statistical significance value was accepted as p<0.05. Results: At the end of the treatment, in the group where the Open front appliance was applied, the ANB and SNGoGn angles increased significantly, while the U1/SN angle decreased significantly. In the group where fully coverage RME appliance was applied, SNB and N-Pog values decreased significantly at the end of the treatment; ANB, SN/GoGn, L1/NB and L1-NB values increased significantly. When the changes occurring as a result of treatment were compared between the two groups, it was determined that there was no significant difference. Conclusion: It has been determined that the cephalometric changes occurring in maxillary expansion performed with different appliance types do not differ according to the appliance type and that both appliances show similar effects.
