Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of sacral massage using cherry seeds on labor pain, anxiety levels, and overall labor comfort. Material and Methods: This randomized controlled and experimental study was conducted between June and November 2023 in the maternity unit of a training and research hospital in İstanbul. A total of 72 participants were allocated to the experimental and control groups through randomization. Data were collected using a personal information form and several assessment scales: the visual analog scale, State Anxiety Scale, and Labor Comfort Scale. The control group received standard care, while the experimental group received mechanical sacral massage using cherry seed pouches for 30 minutes during the latent, active, and transition phases of labor. Results: The sacral massage with cherry pit bags shortened the 1st and 2nd stages of labor (p<0.05), but it had no effect on the APGAR scores (p>0.05). Additionally, sacral massage decreased pain during the active and transition phases, reduced anxiety in the transition phase, and improved labor comfort in all phases (p<0.05). Conclusion: Sacral massage with cherry seeds effectively reduces labor pain and anxiety while increasing comfort and shortening labor duration. Integrating this cost-effective and easy-to-implement massage technique into midwifery care is of utmost importance. Additionally, including mechanical massage techniques in midwifery curricula will ensure that students gain proficiency in these practices.
