ABSTRACT
Objective: The study was planned to examine the relationship between core endurance times and flexibility, balance and lower extremity performance of individuals with mechanical low back pain (LBP). Material and Methods: 71 individuals with a mean age of 37,62±10.82 years were included in the study. The demographic and physical characteristics of the individuals were recorded. Pain intensity was measured with the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). McGill trunk endurance tests were used to evaluate the core endurance time. Flexibility sit-reach, trunk extension, right/left trunk lateral flexion; static balance standing on one leg with eyes open and closed; dynamic balance was measured with Y balance tests. 30-second Sit-Rise Test and Stair Climbing Test were used for lower extremity performance evaluation. Data were analyzed by appropriate statistical methods. Significance was accepted as p<0.05. Results: It was found that individuals with high core endurance had better flexibility in right-left lateral flexion and extension, and lower extremity performances, and performed better in some parameters measured for the static and dynamic balance test (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was observed that low endurance values negatively affected the flexibility, balance abilities and lower extremity performances of individuals. We think that the evaluation of flexibility, balance and lower extremity performance together with core endurance in the evaluation of individuals with mechanical low back pain may guide the treatment planning of these patients. In addition, the right habits to be acquired with a multidisciplinary approach and preventive rehabilitation practices can reduce the incidence of low back pain and health expenditures.
