ABSTRACT
The content of scientific knowledge in professional professions is generally based on ''concepts'' and ''theories''. This review attracts attention to some theories that could be utilized to provide a quality postpartum care. Meleis' theory of transition, in the transition process, it is aimed at providing individual and holistic care to individuals according to their needs based on transition. Roy's adaptation theory, it is an important care task for midwives and nurses to provide mothers to adapt to the postpartum process. Maternal attachment theory, it is evaluated by measuring or observing the behaviors of mothers toward their infants during the first postpartum days. Maternal role theory, Meighan and Mercer define the realization of maternal role and mothers' inclusion of maternal behaviors on their established order as role achievement process, namely motherhood. Self-care theory, it is defined as determining the help needed by mothers and organizing the process, and planning and sustaining the help. Breastfeeding self-efficacy theory, it is stated that breastfeeding training grounded on the Breastfeeding self-efficacy theory, is effective in increasing the breastfeeding success. Comfort theory, the care quality, satisfaction, and postpartum life quality of individuals may be contributed by providing a high postpartum comfort. Postpartum depression theory it is required to follow up women in the postpartum period in terms of depression findings and inform their families on this matter. The use of theories and models may form a basis in practices and enhance the care quality.
