Objective: There are not enough studies on the factors affecting chronic constipation, which is common worldwide. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare physical activity level, sitting time and perceived stress level in women with and without chronic constipation. Material and Methods: Patients with (constipation group, n=29, age=30.72±5.98 years) and without (control group, n=31, age=31.13±6.75 years) chronic constipation according to the Rome IV diagnostic criteria were included in the study. Bowel functions were evaluated with the bowel diary (frequency of defecation, defecation duration, feeling of incomplete defecation, pain) and Bristol Stool Scale (stool type), physical activity level and sitting time were evaluated with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQSF), and perceived stress level was evaluated with the Perceived Stress Scale. Evaluations were carried out once. Results: The frequency of defecation was found to be lower in the constipation group compared to the control group, and the defecation duartion and the feeling of incomplete defecation were higher than the control group (p<0.05). Stool type was found to be hard in the constipation group and normal in the control group. It was observed that IPAQ-SF scores were lower (p=0.003) and sitting time was longer (p<0.001) in the constipation group compared to the control group. Perceived stress level was found to be higher in the constipation group than in the control group (p=0.023). Conclusion: It was found that women with chronic constipation had less physical activity level, sitting time and perceived stress level more than women without constipation. According to these results, physical activity, sitting time and perceived stress level should be considered in both assessment and treatment programs in constipation management.
