ABSTRACT
Objective: Intimate partner violence is a common health problem worldwide affects women more than men. This violence can include physical, emotional, sexual and economic abuse, as well as contraception or control over medical care. The study was carried out to determine the relationship between intimate partner violence, automatic thought and emotional intelligence in women. Material and Methods: The research is descriptive and relationship-seeking type. The research was carried out with a total of 308 women living with their spouses/partners between January 15, 2022 and May 01, 2022. The data were collected by the researcher using the 'Personal Information Form', 'Intimate Partner Violence Attitude Scale-Revised Form', 'Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire' and 'Rotterdam Emotional Intelligence Scale'. Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis test and correlation analysis were used in the analysis of the data. Results: It was determined that 15.9% of the women participating in the study were exposed to physical violence at least once by their spouses/partners. It shows that women whose spouses have a low education level, low income level and whose spouse uses alcohol are in the risk group for domestic violence. In addition, it was determined that there was a positive relationship between intimate partner violence and automatic negative thinking, and a negative relationship between emotional intelligence. Conclusion: Health professionals should know the women in the risk group for intimate partner violence and should follow the women in this group more closely. In addition, considering the effects of domestic violence on women's mental health, the mental status of women in the risk group should also be evaluated.
