Objective: This study aimed to evaluate women's mental health and self-esteem before and after hysterectomy surgery. Material and Methods: The sample of this descriptive study consisted of 101 women who were hospitalized due to hysterectomy in the gynecology service of Dr. Zekai Tahir Burak Women's Health Training and Research Hospital. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Forms were applied to women twice before and after the surgery. Data were evaluated by percentage distribution, mean and t test, p<0.05 was accepted significant. Results: The mean age of women was 48.41±6.17 (minimum: 29; maximum: 72). Before and after the surgery, a statistically significant difference was found between the subscales of the BSI, anxiety (p=0.001), depression (p=0.001), negative self (p=0.003), hostility (p=0.005) scores, and the RSES (p=0.001). While the self-esteem of the patients before the surgery was high at 64.4%, it was found to be high at the level of 74.3% after the surgery. Conclusion: While women's selfesteem increased after the surgery, their anxiety, depression, negative self and hostility levels decreased. Performing approaches that will increase women's self-esteem and support their mental health are recommended in the period before the surgery.
