Objective: This study investigated the effects of rating of perceived exertion (RPE), enjoyment, mental fatigue, emotional state, and technical activity responses to 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 half-court small-sided games (SSGs) in basketball. Material and Methods: Eighteen young female basketball players (age: 15.6±0.7 years, height: 175.0±4.9 cm, weight: 63.7±7.0 kg, body mass index: 20.8±1.1 kg/cm2 , training experience 5.6±0.7 years) voluntarily participated in this study. Before the measurements, the basketball players were informed of the anthropometric measurements and the YoYo Intermittent Recovery Test-Level 1 was performed. Players completed the RPE, exercise enjoyment scale, visual analog scale (VAS) for mental fatigue, and emotion scale to determine psychological responses during the SSGs. For the analysis of technical responses, the games were videorecorded. Results: The study's findings indicated that the 2v2 game elicited significantly higher RPE responses than the 3v3 game (p<0.05). Rebounding, successful shots, and assisted technical activities were more prevalent in the 2v2 game, whereas the 4v4 game had the lowest number of turnovers (p<0.05). In 3v3 SSG, players displayed increased vigor, whereas 2v2 games resulted in more significant fatigue compared to 3v3 contests. In addition, anger was more noticeable in the 4v4 game than in the 2v2 game. No statistically significant differences were observed in enjoyment and VAS responses among the various SSGs (p>0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, smaller number of players increased the intensity of the game and more technical activity performed. Coaches can increase the physiological loading and increase the technical activity by using fewer players.
