ABSTRACT
Functional movement screen (FMS) is a tool used to assess the quality of movement of a human being. The aim of this study is to form normative values for FMS, to examine the reliability, validity, injury prediction, impact of training, and descriptive studies of FMS, and to present a review of current studies. The study was conducted using electronic databases as a data collection. The identified studies were reviewed in detail after critical analysis and bias assessment to verify the inclusion criteria. Ninety-four of the 154 identified studies investigating reliability (13), validity (5), injury prediction values (14), descriptive studies (50), and the impact of training (12) were included in the review. For the interrater and intrarater reliability of the FMS, it was found that 7 studies were excellent (ICC=0.97; ICC=0.96; ICCInter=0.98; ICCIntra=0.92; ICC=0.90), 5 studies were good (ICCInter=0.88; ICCintra=0.75; 0.89; ICCInter= 0.76; ICCIntra=0.74; ICCintra=0.80 and 81), and 1 study was weak (ICCInter=0.29; ICCIntra=0.6). In 5 studies examined for the validity of FMS, different evaluations and recommendations were made in 7 different sub-tests applied. In 14 studies examined for the FMS injury prediction, the participants who had values below fourteen points for the FMS injury risk value (95%CI, <14) were also determined to carry a risk of injury. In nine of the twelve studies examining the impact of training on FMS values, significant increases were observed in the relevant values. In fifty of the status detection studies evaluated, the FMS values were generally found to be directly proportional and significantly effective among the variables compared (motor skills, anthropometric values, branch performances, history of injury, gender, obesity, rehabilitation process). As a result, it is thought that FMS and similar posture analysis evaluations would contribute to the field in terms of performance, rehabilitation and descriptive studies.
