ABSTRACT
Objective: The research was conducted to determine the relationship between birth memory and mothers' feelings of postpartum security. Material and Methods: This study, which was designed as descriptive and correlational was conducted with 230 mothers in the postpartum service of a public hospital in the central region of Türkiye between May and December 2023. The data of the study were collected using a personal information form, Birth Memory and Recall Scale and Mothers' Postpartum Sense of Security Scale. Descriptive statistics were used in the socio-demographic characteristics of the mothers, independent groups t-test and Mann-Whitney U test were used to compare some characteristics of the mothers with the scale scores, and Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between the scale scores. Results: The total mean score of the Birth Memory and Recall Scale of the mothers participating in the study was 80.69±10.09; It was determined that the total mean score of the Mothers' Postnatal Sense of Security Scale was 52.02±4.44. It was found that there was a significant negative correlation between the involuntary recall score from the Birth Memory and Recall Scale and its sub-dimensions and the mean total score for family ties from the Postpartum Feelings of Security Scale and its sub-dimensions (r=-0.152, p=0.021). As the involuntary recall score in birth memory decreases, the Mother's Postpartum Sense of Security Scale score increases. In addition, women's educational backgrounds affect their birth memory; Family type affects mothers' feelings of security after birth. Conclusion: It was found that as the level of involuntary recall in the birth memory decreased, mothers' postnatal sense of security increased in the early postpartum period. Helping women to create good memories and positive perceptions of childbirth and contributing to their sense of security should be an important priority.
