Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between quadriceps (Q) angle and concentric and eccentric muscle strength of male athletes. Material and Methods: A total of 145 male athletes were included to this study [winter sports (n=28), gymnastics (n=17), athletics (jumping n=20, throwing n=14, running n=8), karate (n=22), and taekwondo (n=36)]. The Q angle of the athletes were measured in supine position (passive) and in standing position (active) with a goniometer. Quadriceps muscle strength was evaluated by IsoMed 2000® isokinetic dynamometer (Ferstl, Germany) concentrically and eccentrically at 60º/sec and 180º/sec angular velocities. In order to examine the relationship between variables Spearman correlation analysis was used. Significance level was taken as p<0.05. Results: When the relationship between Q angle and quadriceps muscle strength of all athletes was examined, it was found that there was a statistically significant negative weak correlation between passive Q angle and eccentric strength of knee extensors at angular velocities of 60º/sec and 180º/sec on right side (p<0.05). When the branches were examined one by one, it was determined that there were different relationships between Q angle and muscle strength. Conclusion: We think that the relationship between the Q angle and muscle strength cannot be interpreted in general and should be interpreted in a specific way to the sport branches. The Q angle may be related to quadriceps muscle strength, but may vary depending on the sport branch.
