ABSTRACT
Adolescence is a risky period for internet addiction. Studies show that internet addiction rates are high in adolescents. While high levels of internet addiction in adolescents cause families to be affected, many family-related factors affect the rate of internet addiction in adolescents. Nurses can provide continuity of family processes by taking into consideration family related factors in the care of adolescents and families who have risk or problems with internet addiction and can contribute to prevent internet addiction. The aim of this review is to examine familial factors associated with internet addiction in adolescents and to make recommendations for nursing care. In the studies conducted, have found a relationship between internet addiction and family conflicts, family functionality, family economic status, family support, family intactness, parental monitoring, parent's problematic alcohol use, parenting styles for internet use, parental psychological symptoms, physical violence, physical and psychological neglect of parents and parental-child relational quality in adolescents. Nurses can provide care to families within the scope of diagnoses of interrupted family processes, disabled family coping, impaired parenting and readiness for enhanced parenting.Families have an important role to play in preventing internet addiction. In order to minimize excessive internet use of adolescents, it is recommended to consider family and family related factors in nursing care practices and prevention programs.
