ABSTRACT
Objective: This study was carried out to determine the views of midwives about partner support during the childbirth process and the factors affecting these opinions. Material and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted between 1 February-31 May 2023 to determine the midwives' views participation of midwives working at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of Ankara City Hospital (n=192). A Descriptive Information Form and a Form of Views on Partner Support during Childbirth were used to collect data. Results: The participants were found to have high rates of agreeing with positive statements about partner support during childbirth. In comparison to the participants who were ≥36 years old, the participants who were ≤35 years old had a higher rate of agreeing with the statements that partner support during childbirth increases the ability of the woman to cope with labor pain and adjust to the childbirth process, it reduces the rate of episiotomy procedures, and it facilitates active participation in the childbirth process and the desire to breastfeed (p<0.05). The agreement rate of midwives who do not have children with the statements that partner support during chilbirth increases the ability to cope with birth pain (p=0.043), shortens the duration of labor (p=0.038), reduces the episiotomy rate (p=0.004) and reduces the complication rate (p=0.013) was found to be significantly higher than that of midwives have children. The agreement rate of midwives who have children with the statement that partner support during birth makes women willing to breastfeed was found to be significantly higher than midwives who do not have children (p=0.041). Conclusion: It was determined that midwives had high rates of agreement with statements about partner support during childbirth, and they were supportive of partner support during childbirth. It was also found that midwives who were younger and have no children were more supportive of partner support during childbirth. Accordingly, it is recommended to organize education programs about partner support during childbirth, include partner support during childbirth among topics in undergraduate and graduate courses, and develop health policies that would allow partners to accompany women during childbirth.
