Psychological Resilience Levels of Nursing Students and Coping Strategies in the COVID-19 Process: Descriptive Study

ÖZET
Amaç: Koronavirüs hastalığı-2019 [coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19)] salgını, dünya çapında milyonlarca insanı fiziksel, duygusal, psikolojikve ekonomik yönden etkileyen ciddi bir halk sağlığı sorunudur. Bu araştırmanın amacı, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin COVID19 salgını sırasında psikolojik sağlamlıklarının ve baş etme stratejilerinin değerlendirilmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Tanımlayıcı türdeki bu araştırma, Şubat-Haziran 2020 tarihleri arasında, 3. sınıfta öğrenim görmekte olan toplam 112 öğrenci ile gerçekleştirildi. Verilerin toplanmasında, 'Tanımlayıcı Bilgi Formu', 'COVID-19 Sürecine Yönelik Soru Formu' ve 'Kısa Psikolojik Sağlamlık Ölçeği' kullanıldı. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde Student t-testi, Kruskal-Wallis ve Mann-Whitney U testleri kullanıldı. Bulgular: Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin psikolojik sağlamlık puan ortalaması 19,32±4,27 puandır ve 'orta' düzeydedir. Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin cinsiyeti, uyku düzeni, psikiyatrik hastalığı olma durumu, kendine ayırdığı zamanda ve sağlığında değişim durumları ile psikolojik sağlamlık puan ortalamaları arasındaki farkın istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olduğu saptandı (p0,05). Sonuç: Bu çalışma sonucunda, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin psikolojik sağlamlık düzeyi orta düzeyde olduğu ve COVID-19 salgınında 'davranışsal, zihinsel, bedensel ve inançsal' baş etme stratejileri kullandığı saptandı.

ABSTRACT
Objective: Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is a serious public health problem that affects millions of people around the world physically, emotionally, psychological and economically. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the psychological resilience and coping strategies of nursing students during the COVID-19 outbreak. Material and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted between February-June 2020 with a total of 112 students studying in the third grade. 'Descriptive Information Form', 'Question Form for COVID-19 Process' and 'The Brief Resilience Scale' were used to collect data. Student's t, Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U-tests were used to evaluate the data. Results: The average score of the nursing students' psychological resilience is 19.32±4.27 and is at the 'medium' level. The difference between nursing students' gender, sleep patterns, mental disorders, changes in their time and health and their psychological resilience scores were found to be statistically significant (p0.05). Conclusion: The result of this research, it was found that the psychological resilience level of the nursing students was medium level and they used "behavioral, mental, physical and religious" coping strategies in the COVID-19 epidemic.

8. LAW AND AUTHORISATION TO FOLLOW

Turkish Law will be applied in practicing, interpreting the hereby "Terms of Use" and managing the emerging legal relationships within this "Terms of Use" in case of finding element of foreignness, except for the rules of Turkish conflict of laws. Ankara Courts and Enforcement Offices are entitled in any controversy happened or may happen due to hereby contract.

9. CLOSING AND AGREEMENT

Hereby "Terms of Use" come into force when announced in the "SITE" by "Turkiye Klinikleri". The users are regarded to agree to hereby contract terms by using the "SITE".
