Objective: To evaluate the effect of age, gender and biometric parameters on the clinical performance of spot vision screener (SVS). Material and Methods: In this prospective study, children who attended the ophthalmology department between August 2019 and February 2020 were evaluated in terms of refractive measurements with SVS and a standart autorefractometer after cycloplegia. Axial length (AL), anterior chamber depth (ACD) and corneal radius (CR) values were obtained by optical biometry. By using the spherical equivalent difference between SVS and autorefractometer measurements, the relationship between the clinical performance of SVS and ocular biometric parameters, age and gender was examined. Results: A Total 592 eyes of 292 children (134 male, 162 female) with an average age of 103.2±32.6 (36-178) months were evaluated. There were significant difference between SVS and cycloplegic autorefractometer measurements of spherical, cylindrical and spherical equivalents (SE) (p<0.05). A negative correlation was observed between AL, ACD, AU/CR and age with SE difference between cycloplegic autorefractometer and SVS. It was found that the strongest correlation among biometric parameters was with AL/CR (r=-0.670 p=0.000). No statistically significant difference was found between the SE difference between the two measurement methods and genders (p=0.296). Conclusion: Biometric parameters affect SVS measurement results. Most effective of these parameters is AU/CR. In addition because of these biometric parameters increase from hyperopic cases to myopic cases, more reliable measurement results can be obtained as the SVS measurements shift from hyperopic cases to myopic cases.
