Having increasingly gained popularity, micro-dentistry is lately becoming one of the most prominent approaches serving to the purpose of minimally invasive treatments for less tissue loss. Laser application technologies are one of the approaches of the micro-dentistry. Laser technology is preferred due to its many advantages such as minimal tissue damage, faster coagulation, less post-operative discomfort, edema, scarring and rapid healing. It also reduces the need for analgesics and antiinflammatory medication. Laser indications in pediatric dentistry mainly are frenectomies (lingual frenum, maxillary labial frenulum), gingival recontouring, gingival hyperplasia removal, operculectomies, exposure of unerupted teeth and some oral pathology treatments (pyogenic granulomas, mucoceles, aphthous ulcers, herpes labialis etc.). Regarded as minimal invasive technique, laser applications are rather suitable for children and they lead to a better cooperation and post-operative satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to determine the areas of use of soft-tissue laser applications in pediatric dentistry. Studies on laser applications for children are needed to be further practiced for safer and better quality treatments.
