ABSTRACT
Objective: This research was carried out to determine the relationship between the stress of conscience and burnout levels of surgical nurses working in public hospitals in a city center in Marmara Region. Material and Methods: This descriptive, correlational and multicenter research was completed with 245 nurses who agreed to participate in the study after obtaining the necessary institutional and ethical board permissions. The data were collected using the ''Sociodemographic and Occupational Characteristics Questionnaire'', ''Stress of Conscience Scale" and the ''Burnout Scale''. Results: The average of the Burnout Scale obtained from the research is 4.04±1.10, the average of the stres of conscience scale is 68.90±44.08. It was observed that there was a statistically significant relationship between the Burnout Scale and the Stress of Conscience Scale and its sub-dimensions (p<0.05) in surgical nurses. It was determined that there was a statistically significant, positive and moderate relationship between the Burnout Scale and the Stress of Conscience Scale and the external factor sub-dimensions (0.4<r<0.5; p<0.05) and it was determined that there was a statistically significant, positive and weak correlation between the burnout scale and the internal factor sub-dimension of the Stress of Conscience scale (0.3<r<0.4; p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result of the research, it was determined that as the level of conscience stress of surgical nurses increased, burnout levels also increased. It was seen that being a woman affected the stress of conscience, choosing the profession willingly, burnout, and finding the profession suitable for oneself affected both the stress of conscience and burnout.
