Objective: There is a risk of developing inadvertent perioperative hypothermia (IPH) in 50-90% of surgical patients. Today, IPH is one of the problems that have not been solved yet and has an important place among nursing interventions. This study was conducted as a descriptive study in order to determine the knowledge levels and applications of surgical nurses for IPH care. Material and Methods: The population of the study consisted of 245 nurses working between August and December 2017 in surgical clinics of two universities and two training and research hospitals. The study was completed with 115 nurses who agreed to participate in the study. In the data collection, the 'Questionnaire' prepared by the researchers in line with the literature; In the evaluation of the data, number, percentage, descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis H test were used. Results: In the study, it was found that 19.1% of the nurses were successful in the total knowledge score of IPH. It was found that most of the nurses did not evaluate the patient for IPH one hour before anesthesia but only for the first 24 hours postoperatively. It was determined that 59.7% of the nurses did not perform preoperative heating. Conclusion: It was determined that nurses' level of knowledge and practices regarding IPH care was not sufficient. It is recommended that educational programs and clinical practice guidelines should be developed to increase the knowledge and application rates of surgical nurses for the treatment of IPH.
