ABSTRACT
Objective: This study was conducted to activate the innovation process in women's health nursing, determine the awareness levels of nurses on the subject, and to evaluate the innovative products developed by nurses across the field. Material and Methods: The study was conducted in a prospective cross-sectional type between May 2012 and December 2017 in Istanbul Health Sciences University Zeynep Kamil Women and Child Diseases Training and Research Hospital. The sample consisted of 80 women's health nurses employed at the relevant hospital who agreed to participate in the study. The data were collected with a questionnaire form consisting of 43 questions created by the researchers within the literature. Within the scope of the questionnaire, there were 28 questions including information about the nurses 'demographic, professional and innovation processes, and 15 questions in 4-point Likert style that included participants' participation in innovative processes. In statistical analysis, frequency distributions, variance analyses, and the chi squared test were used through the SPSS package program. Results: A total of 101 innovative discoveries were made in the field of women's health nursing in the 5 year process. 20 patents were registered to protect the innovations developed by the nurses. The products developed were seen to generally be products that supported maternal and infant health or improved quality of care. Through these projects, each of which constituted a discovery, nurses employed in hospital were incentivized to support novel and creative activities that improve quality of care. Conclusion: Through the 5 year nursing innovation process applied in hospital, more effective projects were seen to be developed each year. Regular training and scientific activities to introduce, guide, and incentivize the process all have great roles in activating the innovation process among women's health nurses.
