ABSTRACT
Objective: The effect of 5 repetitions of 90% of 1 repeated maximal voluntary contraction leg press-based warm-up protocol on agility performance in soccer players. Material and Methods: Thirty-nine soccer players (age: 22.87±1.51 yrs; height: 178.70±7.89 cm; weight: 74.54±8.75 kg) were volunteered to participate in this investigation. The athletes who participated in this study were randomly divided into two groups; Leg Press Warm-up Group (LP) (n=21) and Control Group (CG) (n=18). initial measurement values of agility test for all athletes was made followed by 5 minutes passive rest after 5 minutes warm-up at 8 km/h on treadmill. The second measurements of the soccer players were performed 48 hours after the first measurements. In the second measurement, leg press warm-up group were subjected to 5 repetitive leg press exercises at 90% of one-repetition maximum (1 RM) following the first measurement warm-up protocol. After leg press implementation, 5 minutes passive rest was given and the athletes were subjected to agility test again. The second measurements of the CG was obtained followed by 5 minutes passive rest after 5 minutes warm-up at 8 km/h on treadmill. Results: In analyzing the data, repeated measure analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted. The results indicated that significant time interactions were observed for agility test scores in the soccer players subjected to different warm-up protocols (p=0,016). Simple effects analysis were used to determine the difference between groups following by pre- and post-measurement process. As a result of analysis, while there was no significant difference between LP and CG group following by pre-test scores (p=0,238), a significant increase was observed in the LP group after the post-test scores (p=0,024). Conclusion: It can be stated that 5 repetitions of 90% of maximal voluntary contraction leg press-based warm-up may cause a significant increase in agility performance of soccer players.
