ABSTRACT
Objective: Today, the use of vegetable oils in traditional and alternative therapy has gained importance. Especially the preference of oils with high unsaturated fatty acid composition has caused many researches. Materials and Methods: In this study, the protective effects of almond and apple oil, which are especially used as fruits and nuts, were determined in an ulcer model induced by an anti-inflammatory drug, indomethacin (IND). The experimental groups were determined to be 0.5 and 1 ml/kg doses of almond and apple oil, the positive control famotidine group, indomethacin as the negative group, and the last group to be healthy. At the end of the 24-hour fasting, the biochemical parameters expressed the antiulcer effect in the stomach tissues of the experimental animals. Results: Lipid peroxidatione (LPO) levels increased with the applied indomethacin, catalase (CAT), glutathione reductase (GR) and myeloperoxidase (MPx) enzyme activities were significantly reduced by oils. At the same time, the decreased glutathione (GSH) levels with indomethacin applied significantly increased the levels of almond and apple oil. Conclusion: In line with these data, both doses of almond and apple oil provided significant protection against ulcers.
