Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the index finger (2D) and ring finger (4D) length ratio (2D/4D) and respiratory functions in amateur football players. Material and Methods: 25 football players actively playing football in the infrastructure of Atakum Belediyespor, one of the regional amateur league teams, participated in the research. For body composition measurements, the Gaia 359 Plus Body Pass analyzer used a Vernier caliper (0.05 mm) for finger ratios. The formula FR (finger length ratio): 2D/4D was used to determine the ratio. For respiration function tests, the MGC Diagnostics Brand CPFS/D USB Spirometer and for the respiration muscle forces was used with a MicroRPM respiration pressure gauge. In the study, the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality testing and Pearson correlation analysis was performed to determine relationship levels. All data has been analyzed in the SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The means of the participants participating in our study pulmonary function test values was forced vital capacity (FVC) 5.06±0.85; forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) 4.33±0.67; FEV1/FVC ratio 85.70±7.60; slow vital capacity (SVC) 4.57±0.99; inspiratory capacity (IC) 2.94±0.84; maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) 172.60±31.37, maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) of respiratory muscle forces 139.60±33.08; maximal expiratory pressure (MEP) was calculated as 160.70±47,49 cmH2O. Participating in our study left FR and positive high between FVC (r: 0.747) and FEV1 (r: 0.747) ratios in pulmonary function tests, if respiratory muscle strength is between MIP (r: 0.836) and MEP (r: 0.854) positive very high degree of a relationship was observed. Conclusion: As a result, a relationship was found between left FR and (SVC, IC, MVV, FVC, FEV1), and respiratory muscle strength in pulmonary function tests in football players. According to this result, we can say that the left-hand finger ratio (left FR) is a practical method for the evaluation of respiratory functions and respiratory muscle strength.
