Objective: This study was conducted to determine the views of nurses regarding the interruptions they experienced during the drug preparation and administration process. Material and Methods: The research was carried out descriptively. The population of the study consisted of nurses actively working in a university hospital in western Türkiye between December 2022-February 2023 and the sample consisted of 152 nurses. The data of the study were collected using the Descriptive Characteristics Information Form and the Questionnaire on Interruptions in the Medication Preparation and Administration Process. Frequency and percentage calculations were used to evaluate the data. Results: Only 7.89% of the nurses participating in the study stated that they prepared the drugs in a separate treatment room. 92.11% of the nurses stated that they experienced 1-10 interruptions during the drug preparation and administration process, the most common reason for interruptions was the patient and the patient's relatives with 30.35%, 42.11% stated that they stopped the procedure and dealt with the interruption/interruption, and 84.87% stated that it took 1-10 minutes to return to the procedure. The majority of the nurses stated that the interruptions were not urgent. In addition, 61.36% of the nurses stated that interruptions may cause drug preparation and administration errors. Conclusion: It was determined that nurses experienced interruptions during the drug preparation and administration process, the majority stopped the process due to interruptions, and the cause of interruptions was mostly human-induced. Nurses think that interruptions in the drug preparation and administration process may cause medication errors. In line with these results, it may be recommended to conduct interventional studies to reduce interruptions in the drug preparation and administration process.
